Project Summary

This study seeks to provide evidence to assess whether the objectives of the Directive 2006/66/EC on batteries and accumulators and waste batteries and accumulators (‘Batteries Directive’) have been met, whether its provisions are sufficiently implemented and whether, as a result of both aspects, the Batteries Directive supports the general objectives of the EU’s environmental policy.

The process of evaluation follows the EC guidance for evaluations and considers the relevance, coherence, effectiveness, efficiency and EU added value of the Directive’s provisions and the legislation implementing it. Through a stakeholder consultation and a review of other information sources, the study will compile, assess and synthesize evidence related to the requirements established by the Batteries Directive and the impacts these may have. All relevant aspects – legal, environmental, economic and social – will be considered.

The results of this evaluation shall be used to identify measures to improve the Batteries Directive and its implementation.

A public consultation has been launched as part of the evaluation of the Battery Directive

As part of the “Evaluation of Directive 2006/66/EC on batteries and accumulators and waste batteries and accumulators”, the research team would like to inform you that a public stakeholder consultation has been launched. The consultation shall run over the period 6 September 2017 - 28 November 2017 and includes an online survey, developed to collect input in relation to the various evaluation areas from different stakeholders. The survey also allows submitting documentary evidence (up to 3 pages).

We kindly invite you to participate actively in this exercise in order to allow us to carry out an evaluation on the basis of as much fact-based evidence as possible.

Further information is available on the official EU consultation page and on this website. If you are interested in receiving further information regarding the consultation and regarding this project, please register as a stakeholder on the registration page. Please also feel free to forward this email to further colleagues and contacts that may be interested in participating in this exercise.
